Escape to the Sun

Canberra winter is always mean. It can really bite. Even though we have the most brilliant winter days here, meaning freezing temperature and sunny, with blue bright sky, it is always nice to be able to go out and feel the warm sun while you are not buried in layers of bulky clothing. Last weekend we did just that. Our family spent a weekend away to Broulee Beach, NSW, about two an hour drive away from Canberra. Lucky for us, the weather was excellent last weekend. It was sunny and 23 degrees warm. The water was still freezing cold, but it did not faze the kids. The kids and our dogs enjoyed our days in the warmth immensely.

I am actually one of the people I know who like winter, since I hate to sweat; but I am looking forward for this winter to be over. I miss the longer daylights and brighter colours.

Here are some of the happy faces, two legged and four legged alike. And as per usual, no matter how much I tried to in the photos with my family, I failed. Only have the one, when I left the beach with Bruno, to go back home and back to the reality of laundry. Ha! Hope to see you again, beach!

It didn’t matter that it was cold. It didn’t matter that it was windy. The new veggie shoots needed to go in the ground, and that’s what she did. Working with her father, my girl was eagerly helping out in the garden, in the middle of winter.

I’ll keep you posted when the green beans is fully grow.

Day 244 #Project365

244-365 cyclist.jpg

The wind blew freezing air in the last winter morning in Canberra. Nothing around me could stand still, everything was under the mercy of the wind, moving this way and that. The flags were flapping wildly, as well as the leaves and those new popping flower buds on some trees, even my hat decided to leave my head during my run. It was craaaazy.

This bald tree, however, was one of the few things that stood still in this part of the lake. Those leafless branches were so stiff and just refused to budge. I set up my camera, wanting to capture the stubbornly still tree, until another moving object swiftly passed us by.

Swoosh he went. Just like the wind.

Day 226 #Project365

226-365 cherry blossom.jpg

Like it was in autumn when some trees have changed their colours before the rest of them caught on, those -I’m sure they are the same- trees now have decided to spruce up some happy spring colours before spring is officially here.  The random patches of colours here and there around town made the windiest month of winter almost bearable. They made the season a bit more -dare I say it- delightful.

This winter is soon going to be over, I can almost smell it in the air. Get ready to come out and play, spring is already knocking at your door!
