Day 217 #Project365

217-365 choc cupcake.jpg

My kids picked a cupcake for me to bake from the brand spanking new cupcake book that I just bought today. Their choice was hardly surprising as they pointed eagerly at the chocolate one. It’s  a ‘milk chocolate hazelnut whip’ cupcake. Since I have never had  milk chocolate in my pantry (ever) I made this one using dark chocolate instead. The cake was flourless, yummy and super easy.

I totally underestimated the reflecting power of the shiny chocolate ganache on the cake, I found myself disliking most of the images I took of these babies. The light bounced on the cake topping’s surface in many points, which to me personally, did not make the appearance of the cake better, let alone made it look mouth-watering. I know food photography is tricky, and the lighting in my kitchen just didn’t help at all. So, just take my word for this one, the chocolate hazelnut cupcake is yummier than it looks! 🙂

Day 188 #Project365

188-365 tiramisu making.jpg

There are times when parental resistance is strong that no matter how intense offspring nagging becomes, we keep our foot down and that’s the end of it. Today was not one of THOSE time, which explained why you are looking at a bunch of lady finger biscuits in the bowl. Thanks to Ms 4 super nagging power I got off my lazy bum and made Tiramisu, as she persistently demanded.

There is a reason why I don’t do a lot of food making photography. I just couldn’t be bothered with the amount of hand washing to keep my hands milk/butter/oil free when I hold the camera. But since Tiramisu is a pretty easy dessert to make and doesn’t require a lot of complicated process, I thought I’d take some shots and see how it goes. I found out soon enough that not every step was photograph worthy. A layer of mascarpone/cream was just a big blob of white.

The only bad thing about making your own Tiramisu is the fact that you cannot eat it straight away. This baby has to be covered and ‘sleep’ in the fridge over night so everything sets properly and all the goodness of the flavours is throughly absorbed. Let’s see how that goes, as my daughter just came to me as I am writing this post saying that she can’t wait to enjoy her Tiramisu after dinner.

…sigh.. another unimportant battle is imminent.

Day 93 #Project365

93-365 yellow pudding

Some days a dessert is just a dessert. Other days it’s more a life line than just a little sweet dish. It is one yummy thing that serves as a little pick-me-up to survive a day.

This petit yellow is a mango vanilla pudding. The presentation caught my eyes because I thought it looked really nice. Glistening and translucent blob of jelly on top of layers of yellow and white. Very neat and precise. It tasted just as good. A layer of sweet mango followed by vanilla pudding then mango mousse welcomed my spoon as it dug through the crystal like jelly blob . Fresh and light. Just what I needed as my afternoon almost came to a dangerous dip.
