Day 215 #Project365

215-365 babygal.jpg

When my kids were still tiny babies, I learned soon enough the difference in their cries. Thought it was a myth at first, but I turned a believer once I could actually tell the hungry cry from a sleepy one, or the -I’m-sick- cry from simple boredom cry. Now that they are bigger, they cry less, but cry nonetheless especially when emotions or pain gets too overwhelming. Mere words just won’t do.

There was a sad moment today for Ms 4. Due to some transportation problem (a.k.a car battery had gone flat) we had to cancel her -much-expected-and-super-excited-for- play date after school. She was so disappointed and sad. She wasn’t whinging, nor complaining, instead she just burst into tears and sobbed. Remembering how I could tell her cry when she was a baby, I felt her pain now too; her sadness about not being able to go and play with her friends.  Oh, the disappointment. For us it’s probably nothing, because we knew we could always re-scheduled the play date, and it’s not like these kids are not going to see each other tomorrow at school anyway. But for her, that one moment today, it was more like the sky was falling, and her world came tumbling down. That’s how hard she cried. I could only hug her while she was sobbing and sobbing in my arms, and it was heartbreaking!

She was okay again afterwards, and the car’s battery been fully charged as well in case you are wondering. This smiley portrait of her is just my way to cheer myself up and highlight what a happy girl she is. I couldn’t take her pain away today, but I was there to comfort her and to get through it. It’s another lesson I learn as a parent. Pain is inevitable for our children, all we can do is be there for them. Always.

Day 211 #Project365

211-365 bikes.jpg

It seemed only yesterday that it was little pink tricycle standing next to the blue bicycle. I’m sure before long it will be two same size bicycles standing side by side. I like to notice these things, be surprised by them as they remind me how quick my kiddies grow and remind me how I should make time to enjoy them like this. They are not going to stay small forever…oh, and thank God for that too 😉

Day 135 #Project365

135-365

This leaf was one of my daughter’s ‘treasures’ for the day. Oh, who am I kidding? My kids are big hoarders and Ms 4 is no exception. They picks up stuff, usually peculiar stuff nobody wants or needs, like rocks (pebbles and all its variants), branches (short and long), paper, wraps (lolly wraps included) and the list goes on. I was just lucky to see the leaf sitting on the chair before she had the time to stash it away in the deep dark corner of her room. When that happens the leaf will never see the light of day ever again, until the next time I do a major spring cleaning in her room, and it won’t be a pretty sight.

Day 127 #Project365

A little observation in my 4 y.o daughter’s behaviour during her shoe shopping session this afternoon:

  1. she knew what she wanted but she would try about a dozen others and get totally side-tracked
  2. practicality and comfort were not the top of the list (at the heat of the argument she actually held a pair of toddler sized shoes in her hands and insisted they would fit)
  3. given two choices she would prefer to take the two pairs instead of choosing one
  4. hungry for sibling’s approval and at the same time was suspicious of his opinions (as sibling’s opinion always drew a big NO from the parental units and followed by a mischievous chuckle by the said sibling )
  5. in confusion, always grab two pair of shoes

Funny thing was before the whole drama and all the crazies, she already knew what shoes she wanted. Her new shoes would be shiny, gold and have something pink on it (shiny and pink combo is big among 4 year olds).

127-365 golden shoes

I’m sure (or hope) that in time she will learn:

  1. to do shoe shopping on her own
  2. never trust her brother’s style in female shoes
  3. never take male companions to do shoe shopping with (I know this is a repetition of point 1, but I just can’t stress this enough)
  4. taking the two pairs is NOT always a bad idea 😉

Day 124 #Project365

124-365 homework

Here is Mr 8 doing his homework. Just so you know, what was portrayed here is the total opposite of what actually happened during homework time. I spared you the ugly for some other time. I wish he channeled his energy in doing his work than just complaining about it. Every. Single. Time. But hey, what’s the fun in that? I swear I’ve got 4 new grey hair a week from our homework sessions.
