Portrait Project – 14/52

candle lit girl

I was reading up for some ideas for my post today. I was reading a wide variety of photography techniques you can do in creating portraits. So many interesting ideas out there, which I’m sure I will visit again in the future, but in this wet Sunday, taking portraits using low light caught my intention.

I decided to use a single candle light to be the sole light source of my portrait today. It was dusk, we were in the room with the blind shut. I was in luck today as my girl was in a mood to play along. It helped that the little heart-shaped candle holder was her creation that she made at school.

It’s cute how a single light could be so mesmerizing.

Day 193 #Project365

193-365 wayang golek.jpg

This is a wayang golek puppet from Indonesia. My kids had a little taste of Indonesia today on their visit to Indonesian cultural center (Balai Budaya) at the embassy. The lighting inside was pretty dim, which was my weakness as I never felt comfortable cranking up the ISO too high for the fear of too much noise. I did not want the aperture to open at its maximum width, and still want reasonable speed to freeze natural movements. This is definitely still in my ‘things to improve’ bucket.

Luckily this puppet was standing just right under the spot light, I just had to keep my hands steady to capture it with the sharpest focus. Despite the many blurry shots of the kids, I’m pretty happy with this one.
