Day 225 #Project365

225-365 games of thrones.jpg

Towards the end of this 1200 pages book, I started to get a bit suspicious. With what was still going on in the book  -some unresolved problems, unexecuted plots and more treasons that I could ever imagined- I was fearing the ending. With not many pages left surely the ending was not here in this book. But there I was kept on reading, with denial in my mind expecting the fast and unsatisfactory ending to this long tale, until I reached an excerpt from, wait for it, yes…the next book! The Game of Thrones continues to the next book, The Winds of Winter. Oh what a full I was.

Felt so cheated at first with the unresolved (unsatisfactory) ‘ending’ of what I thought was the last book of the series, now I felt excited that there are another two coming, then I was smacked crashing down again, once I learned the author hasn’t even finished writing book number 6. Oh, what kind of cruel jape is this?! When is this addict going to get her next fix, pray tell…

I bought the book in hardcover shortly after it came out, so I don’t think mine had an excerpt from the next book in it. Even going into it knowing that Martin has two more books planned the ending of this book really bothered me. He left it on a really bad cliffhanger and it’s probably going to be a while before the next book comes out.

At the end of the fourth book there was a letter written by Martin to fans of the series saying that the fourth book got so big that he decided to split it in two, and that the next book (Dance with Dragons) was going to be out the next year. That was in 2005. So given the fact that he said this book was largely done then and it didn’t come out till 2011, I wouldn’t hold my breath for the next one. (At one point he hadn’t even updated his webpage talking about the progress for this book for over 3 years.)

If you’re interesting in other Fantasy series to hold you over until the next book, I’d highly suggest Robert Jordan’s Wheel of Time which is a fantastic and huge series (the 14th and final book is coming out this January). I’m also a big fan of the Mistborn trilogy by Brandon Sanderson (as well as the rest of his books). So there are a couple of things you can check out while waiting for The Winds of Winter.ReplyCancel

Thanks Adam. I’m still trying to recover from that bad ‘cliffhanger’ now. I will surely check the books that you recommended 🙂ReplyCancel

Day 190 #Project365

190-365 bw books.jpg

I’ve been living in ‘another world’ half the time since the start of the first book, and today was no different. I only just started the third book and I can’t wait to get back to it. There are two more books to go to complete the whole series. If I seemed distracted… you know why and know where to find me 😉

Day 147 #Project365

147-365 book pages

I love books. The thicker the better. Nothing heavy, mostly fiction. It’s a way to ‘escape’ so I see no point in escaping and burdening myself with some heavy philosophical topic or anything alike. I wish I had more time just to read books (without interruptions every 2 minutes) and only come up for air when I need sustenance. Or shower.

Winter, however, always comes with that extra times for me. It gets darker earlier, and colder outside too, so our time outdoor was significantly reduced compare to summer time. This is the book I just bought because recently I was hooked to the TV series Game of Thrones, and the show was based on these fantasy books by George RR Martin. This first book (four books in total) is about seven hundred pages thick, I’m not sure about the rest of the books but I hope they are equally thick. If that’s the case I see that I have my winter all set. Now if you’d excuse me, A Song of Ice and Fire awaits.

Day 133 #Project365

This is the cover of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, a book that I’ve been meaning to read for so long but haven’t. Not quite sure why. I took it with me as one of reading choices whenever I went away for a weekend or a holiday, but somehow other things always won the place for my selection.

As I was not feeling like doing anything strenuous today, trying to beat the stupid flu bug, again I picked this book from my bed side table and thought this is it, this would be the day I read the book. As soon as I sat on the couch however, I realized how special the texture of the book was. (I bought the whole series for Hubby’s Christmas present two years ago and especially picked the ones with the beautiful cloth covers).

Intrigued by the book cover’s texture I picked up my iPhone and took a photo of the cover. It’s a tricky surface to capture with the rough/matte background and shiny golden detail in the middle.

Now I’m feeling quite tired I think I’ll just lie down in front of TV. I think the book has an no-read spell that repels me from reading it.

this is a great image – and absolutely captures what you were trying to achieve. smooth dragon, but the cover is otherwise full of texture.ReplyCancel
