Day 338 #Project365

This morning was pleasant. Weather wise. It’s not too warm and there was plenty of cool air from the wind. A perfect running day. I remember at the beginning of this project I took a lot of photos with my iPhone during my morning/afternoon run. I’d stop and snapped, and continued on running. I didn’t do that a lot these days as I used mostly my DSLR for my posts.

Today I decided to do it again; to take photos with my iPhone and just stopped when I saw nice photo opportunities then resumed my running once I was done.
Didn’t I mention it was a pleasant day?

Day 253 #Project365

253-365 run fest.jpg

Today the whole family went out to support D who participated in 10K  2012 Canberra Times Fun Run. It was such a great day for it too, 5000 runners showed up for the event.

There was minimise energy spent when you were just ‘supporting’. While my significant other was huffing and puffing through streets of Canberra, me and the kids were just hanging out and waiting close to the finish line to see him when he passed it.

Waiting was not too boring if you were armed with 70-300mm telelens. It’s a great venue and event to play further with the lens, which was fun. So many far-away-things to see. Before the first runner came, there were the spectators, the whole finish line set up, the professional photographers at work who rocked super cameras & lenses I couldn’t help feeling camera-envy, and oh so many other interesting things to capture. Then the first runners came. They came trickling down at the beginning but soon it was more like a wave of runners coming together, which made me pay attention to the sweaty runners so not to miss D made it to finish (by this time they all started to the same). Luckily, I did not miss and made the shot.

Day 203 #Project365

I surprised myself today. It turned out that I was not as lazy as I thought I was. Proof in point: I ran today. I woke up nearly noon, and decided to do nothing but reading, or just pottering around the house. Hubby on the other hand already out in the yard as soon as he saw how gorgeous the day was. Happy as a busy bee working around the house he’s always been, especially in good weather day like today. It’s true. It was really nice; sunny and quite warm for winter.

I was always the one person who rarely affected by how nice the world outside was. I could be happy indoor get lost in a book while the weather was extremely gorgeous outside. I was quite set in my lazy way.

But not today. The bright sun and the warmth somehow ‘screamed’ so loud and actually succeeded in making me wanted to go out. It (almost) never happened to me! I grabbed my shoes and ran with my dog enjoying the fresh cool air of the ‘great’ outdoor.

This photo captured the path we ran through. The sun was shinning strong between the trees I thought it looked fantastic. We are oh so ready for spring!

Day 142 #Project 365

142-365 running gear

After what felt like a century of waiting to get well, I finally felt fit enough to go running this morning. It was cloudy, and pretty chilly, but I knew it was nothing compared to the colder mornings to come. It felt good to be able to go outside and run again. I was huffing and puffing at the beginning, but soon my body learnt the pace and things became easier again.

I actually like running in the colder months better than in summer. You just have to wear a proper gear in winter and the running is easier because the cold can help you stay cool (not overheated) throughout the run. I have run longer and further in the past all during winter time. You can’t do that in hotter months. In summer it’s either waking up early –mission impossible for me– or wait until the sun almost going down –around dinner time (craziest time of the day)– to run comfortably. Any other time it’s gonna be too hot. Australian summers give serious heat, and no gear can save you from it.

These three items on the photo are some of my winter running ‘buddies’. A dog leash for my Bruno, my trusty running shoes, and some gloves because I can not stand frozen fingers, and I can’t run with my hands in my pockets all the time. Adding a hat, long running tights, a light jacket and some ear muffs I am ready to go. It seems a lot, you say? Indeed it is. But hey, like anything else, winter is bearable if you are prepared. And I am prepared to run in below zero temperatures of Canberra morning! Bring it!!

Day 55 #Project365

55-365 trees by the lake

This morning I decided to run a bit further than I usually do. Not much longer, just a kilo and a half more than my normal 5K mark around the lake. I took an additional loop (around the Aspen Island) just so I can have a distance without going too far away from my usual running route.

And also, I ran counter clockwise around the lake today. I wonder whether people running around the lake like me run the same way everyday or alternate between clockwise and counter clockwise. I usually run clockwise direction and I do that every time I go there and never really thought about it much. Until today.

So while running I tried to get a sense of the number of people going which direction without actually counting them. I couldn’t figure it out. My mind was preoccupied with this change of direction, I started listing all the different things I experience being on the other side of the path.

I found it was harder running with a dog going counter clockwise, because the dog, usually on my left, didn’t have as much grassy area as in the other side. So he kept going to the far right of the path just to pee on every other trees. Yeah, cyclists weren’t too happy with us because of this. The lake was on our left most of the time, which was fine for me, but dog seemed distracted by water and seemed like he contemplating jumping in, which was not fine.

The second bridge inclination felt harder because by the time we reached it we’ve run about 5K already. All in all it was great! I think I’m going to alternate my direction every time I go there. Dog will get used to it in time.

Anyway, I hope you like my photo for today. It was a bonus from my ‘new’ running route. Looking at the path so bright with the morning sun, and all the trees behind it provided just enough excuse for me to catch my breath and took a photo. It was indeed a very good morning!
