the perfect dusk

colored tree

What I feel when standing in a beautiful place that is gleaming with golden hour light can be likened to a kid who stands in the middle of a candy shop. Wide eyed and excited, we like everything we see and we want to take it home. And there is A LOT of things we like. However, unlike the colourful candies that a kid can buy and take home, I can only take the beautiful view I see and capture it in photographs.

As it happened, just last Saturday I was lucky enough to stand in the middle of a beautiful property called Lanyon Homestead, and found myself basking in the glorious golden hour sun. I was that kid in the candy shop. There was so much to capture as the golden light seemed to intensify the beauty of the place. To have some great friends along to enjoy the perfect setting was…perfect. It was a joy to capture these friendly faces looking so relax and happy in a perfectly beautiful backdrop. Autumn dusk has never looked more beautiful.

ps: Lanyon is one of my favourite places to take photos. It’s beautiful all year long, even in winter. Check out this post from my visit last winter for more photos of Lanyon Homestead.

best friends

Here is my Ms. 5 with her best friend Caspar. They started school when they were 3, and  they have been friends ever since. They rarely see each other now because they don’t go to the same school anymore. To organise a playdate on the weekend is a pain, and our weekdays are packed with schools and after-school activities.

So you can imagine her excitement on the day when I took these photos. It was Caspar’s little brother’s birthday, and Ms 5 was invited. A couple of days before the Day she picked her dress, took it out and laid it out on top of her drawer. She repeatedly warned me not to accidentally put it away in the laundry. She woke up earlier that Sunday, and bouncing on the wall impatiently waited until she could change into her party dress, get ready and go.

As soon as we arrived she ran and gave Caspar (who had been waiting by the door) a big hug and off they went together. They looked like they had tremendous fun watching -and assisting- the magician performing that day.

I really love to take photos in a small event like this birthday party. The kids were very playful and happy. They completely ignored me (and my camera) because they were totally engrossed in watching the magician. The happy faces, the big laughs, and their honest expressions were all so natural. I know that in the future  I can look back at these pictures and will be brought back to the fun and laughter of that moment. A great keepsake of a beautiful moment and beautiful friendship.

Day 317 #Project365

317-365 liz and bub

A friend like L feels more like a sister most times than just a best friend. And I consider myself lucky I found several of these ‘sisters’ through out my youth. We kinda ‘adopted’ each other and manage to stay close over two decades. Or more.  Oceans apart (where most of them live anyway) and lapses of time don’t seem to matter. When you are close you are close no matter where you are. I’ve been enjoying every minute of this short visit.

Do you remember when was the last time you really, really really laughed out loud you almost had tears coming out? Well, mine was just 10 minutes ago..! 🙂
