Day 324 #Project365

324-365 calm kir

It pays to take my camera everywhere. Like today. It was our typical Monday, we didn’t do anything special that could warrant a ‘special’ shot. Ms 4 and I arrived a bit early at my son’s school, so we had to wait a bit until he came out. She moved to the passenger seat and reclined the seat so she could lie down. A bit tired she was so even her movement was a tad slower. A rarity in the life of my daughter.

The lighting inside the car was just beautiful. The soft light from the cloudy day shone right through the closed panoramic glass on top of the car. I took the camera ever so slowly like someone who did not want to scare away a wild animal. You can never tell with Ms 4 sometimes. I was lucky today. For a short moment she was just lying there looking at me (sleepily).

I’m glad I was quick because 2 minutes after she was fully recharged and started bouncing around in the car again.

Day 299 #Project365

299-365 riley

I came from the land of black hair and dark brown eyes, that’s why taking photographs of people with other colour of hair and eyes (non black hair, and non brown eyes) is fascinating to me. This boy is the perfect example. R is  3 years old with a thick red hair, dark green eyes and cute freckles peppering his face. His mom and I often have coffee together, but only today I had my camera ready, and only today he could sit still for about 20 seconds after he finished his hot chocolate.

I know that we have to be quick when taking photos of the little ones, but I still amazed how fast we really have to be. Twenty seconds were all I had before the sugar from his hot chocolate kicked in. No time to wipe off the chocolate from his mouth, little boys are known to despise all kind of cleaning, and no time to adjust the set up of my camera. If I could only close the aperture a bit more, I’d be able to get sharper focus on the whole face and hair. (I underestimated the brightness of the light inside the cafe). But again, no one could beat the effect of sugar in little bodies, so in one second when I looked away from him to look at my camera setting, he’s gone…sigh…

Catch him next time, I will.

Day 296 #Project365

296-365 reading boy

I was out of bribe, so I was grateful for this book that made Mr 8 sit still and totally engross in it that he did not mind me sitting down in front of him and just clicked away.

* I forgot to set the ISO back after some earlier shots, that’s how I ended up with such high ISO. Lucky the shot works, even when the shadow looks a wee bit grainy.

Day 269 #Project365

269-365 swing

The joy on her face while she was swinging high was so priceless. Her hair went everywhere. She was squealing and laughing so hard and so loud that if I hadn’t known better I’d guess that this was her first time on a swing. At one point she was even leaning back so far she almost flipped out of the swing.

My intention was to capture all the riot, but sadly I failed. Capturing flying hair of a moving child in a moving swing, and in shaded area was quite challenging. Well, it’s easy if you love non focused, bad composition image, but we don’t want to see that image do we. So instead, while she was winding down (a bit), I just called her out and was content with this capture. Being quite optimistic that the days will only get warmer going towards summer, I’m sure I will have more opportunity to capture another ‘riot on the swing’ moments.

Day 261 #Project365

261-365 sick boy

The big windows in our lounge room allows a lot of light in and there is a certain time in a day, especially when it’s cloudy outside, when this room is beautifully lit by the nicest, softest, diffused, natural light.

Mr 8 was not feeling too well so he stayed home for the day, and was lying down on the couch after lunch at the ‘perfect light’ time. Since he was unwell, he did not move too much, which even though unintentional from his part, really helped me in getting the right shot.

He gets his much needed rest by lying there, and I get my shot of the day. I believe it’s a WIN for both of us.
