the colors of ASEAN

dancing costume

On one Saturday, about two weeks ago, an event was held in ANU to celebrate ASEAN day (known to be observed on the 8th of August). As it always happens when people from many countries and cultures gather together, there was a lot of food, drink and loads of merry-making.

From behind the lens, it was the splash of colours from various traditional costumes worn by most of the performers that really brightened the day in the most spectacular way. The costumes were colourful and special. See how gorgeous the dancer from top photo is! Get even closer, you’d notice also the amazing details of decoration that adorns the top, the headpiece, accessories, and even the hair. The photos in this post are mostly from Indonesian performers, because I was busy eating and sitting right in the middle of the Indonesian crowd. I promise that next time I’d eat less and walk around more to shoot more people from other countries as well.

Also not to be missed were the hustle of getting ready, fixing your outfit, and make up touch-ups.

Day 71 #Project365

Tonight was the last night to catch all the glorious lights projected on the buildings in Canberra. Yes, it’s still part of the city’s birthday celebration.

I went out with Mr 8 until 10PM. Hubby had to stay back to be with Ms 4 who’s gradually recovering from a nasty stomach bug.

I really love to learn more about night photography, but I don’t have a lot of opportunity to practice. Tonight was the perfect opportunity. A lot of Canberrans were out and about enjoying the magnificent light performance on the Old Parliament House, Questacon and National Library. Forget safety in numbers, the whole village was there. It was great! At the end Mr 8 was keen to try to take some photographs himself and enjoyed the experience too much I had to drag him out of there.

Day 70 #Project365

70-365 hot air baloons

It’s probably the only Saturday in a year when I force myself to get off the bed before 7 and proceed on waking the rest of the family from their deep slumber of weekend nights. Yes. It’s not easy, but somebody has to do it.

In celebration of her birthday, Canberra holds their annual Canberra Hot Air Balloon Festival for a week in March. We don’t take a ride on it we are just there as happy spectators a moment before they fly off at the lawn in front of the Old Parliament House.

This morning however, it turned up to be too windy up there so most of the balloons had to go else where to start. Only these four were there mainly to keep spectators like ourselves still visually entertained. Every one was armed with a camera in his/her hands. Even Mr 8 asked to use my iPhone so he also could take some pictures. We had breakfast and coffee outside and truly enjoyed the city’s celebration in a perfect autumn morning.
