Day 284 #Project365

284-365 bee

This shot was about compromises. I had the delicious late afternoon light, a bee, and the lovely lavender, but I couldn’t get rid of the step on the foreground. Cropping the step out was not an acceptable option. When I sat back and moved a bit, I lost the step, but lost the bee as well, as it was already busy buzzing elsewhere. And the angle of the light in the step-less image looked somewhat different.

So I picked this one in the end, step and all, because I feel it captured the scene just right. And that what matters, I think. This image was taken on the front steps of the house looking out to the road, focusing on the beautifully fragrant plants that were backlit by the sun at the golden hour. It’s a perfectly imperfect shot. A good compromise.

Day 270 #Project365

270-365 bees and blooms

Flowers are one of my ‘fallback’ subjects. Sound harsh I know. But it’s true. They are there, naturally pretty and not moving,  they are an easy subject to photograph and guarantee (mostly) successful result. I find them very helpful whenever I am short of ideas, or too tired from normal daily stuff, or lazy (366 days in a year, I think I’m allowed a day or  7 days of lazy, right). Today’s excuse was exhaustion.

This tree on my backyard just turned pink once the season fully kicked in. It was very attractive, as you could hardly see any green foliage from afar. As I came to have a closer look I saw that I was not the only one attracted to the colours, there were heaps of bees also there busy buzzing and do what bees do, hopping from flowers to flowers.

My kit lens was no micro, but I am quite pleased with this result.
