Day 207 #Project365

207-365 bw tree.jpg

Call it obsession, lack of variation, or anything you want. Bald trees and/ dead trees will always be one of the things I love to capture in a photograph. Is it the gloom, or is it the shape, I’m not actually sure what draws me to them. For the lack of a better word let’s just call it an obsession. For now.

Day 139 #Project365

139-365 bald tree139-365 oval tree

Today’s post features two of my favorite trees. They are two completely different trees, as you can see above. I have posted a photo of each tree in previous months, but again, as they are my favorites,  they will be featured probably many more times than you like or care.

The bald tree I see everyday during the weekdays as it was located between my kids’ two schools. I took this photo around 9AM after the school drop-off, when the fog was still very thick and the temperature only reached 1 degree. I took the photo with my iPhone and used the internal photo app inside another app called Path for the post processing.

The other tree is the tree I fondly named ‘my’ oval tree. It’s a beautiful healthy tree that’s located at the Oval (field with athletic tracks) across the street from my house. The photo was taken around 5PM when the weather was nice with beautiful patchy clouds patterns and around 13 degrees (we reached the top of 16 degrees today, beautiful and sunny).

This was a typical autumn day in Canberra. Foggy cloudy freezing and depressing morning does not always mean an equally depressing cold day ahead. Just like the day we had today.  The warmth from the sun and a beautiful blue sky always makes up for the freezing and ‘appalling’ misty morning.

Day 81 #Project365

81-365 leafless

Those in Canberra who slept through the morning and only woke up at noon would not believe it if I told them that this was how the morning looked like today. We woke up, we opened the blind, and still we thought we were a bit blind. It was white everywhere. We haven’t had a morning like this for so long, it took me awhile to move away from the window.

This favourite dead tree of mine stands in the area between my kids’ schools, so yes, I see it everyday, and yes, everyday I stop and look at it. Today I thought it looked quite special with all the fog covering trees in the background. Look even closer you would see a bird hanging on one of the top branches. The doom and gloom of it was heartbreakingly wonderful. I was glad I took a moment to take this photo, and not even waiting for the lady to finished buckled her child in and drove away with her car, because as soon as the fog lifted (which was really abrupt), everything looked normal again. The sun was back shining, it even got quite so hot in the afternoon that the chilled misty morning became like a distant memory.
